With robotic inspection increasingly being used to reduce human risk and effort in obtaining structural integrity data, Nexxis and Data61 approached the design of the Magneto platform with this at the forefront, implementing AI and advanced mobility design.
The multi-legged design of the Magneto platform was implemented to provide extreme articulation allowing 3-DOF (degrees of freedom). Additionally, exploring a variety of adhesion modalities was important to the development of the Magneto platform. The multi-legged, electro-magnetic design allows for versatile mobility, especially important for inspection and maintenance of complex structures.
As AI moves to become embedded in everyday technology, the Magneto platform is able to integrate and utlize that smart technology to bring in both local and global autonomy, as well as intelligent data gathering to the inspection capability. This allows the inspector to focus on the data rather than the navigation of the platform through complex structures or vessels.
