Overview

Revolute Robotics builds hybrid mobility platforms that combine the robust mobility of drones with the extended operating time of rovers to access areas that were previously inaccessible to mobile robots. The Hybrid Mobility Robot (HMR) (“Hammer”) consists of a quadcopter mounted inside a spherical exoskeleton with two rotating gyroscope-like rings to allow for omnidirectional mobility. Similar to indoor drones, HMR can safely collect data in confined and complex spaces and around obstacles. Its spherical exoskeleton awards HMR the ability to roll on the ground for up to 10X longer operation than when flying. This extended operating time allows for less downtime which leads to faster inspections and enables inspection of larger assets that current indoor drones cannot access. The expected value of this robot reduces inspection times from weeks to hours, and saves tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars each time it performs an inspection. Importantly, by enabling remote inspections that are performed in a safe location, we are drastically reducing the danger faced by human inspection crews. 


Picture this:

  • Inspecting the mine shaft takes 3 minutes of flying to get to the area, you only have 6 minutes of inspection before RTB.

    • HMR gets there using less battery, has more time to inspect, and can go further 

  • Large pipe with vertical sections that a rover is unable to manoeuvre. The drone is limited by how far it can inspect

    • HMR only flies in the vertical portions, capturing more of the inspection than other tools are capable of

  • The pipe entry point is difficult to access - the rover requires scaffolding to deploy, drone can only go so far

    • HMR can reach entry without scaffolding and rolls to inspect the remainder of the asset
