Position Summary:
The Lab Technician / Instructor Assistant supports the Canadian Institute for Non-Destructive Evaluation (CINDE) by preparing and maintaining training facilities, assisting instructors in delivering courses, and supporting certification exams, research projects, and workshops. Reporting to the CEO with primary accountability to the Test Centre Supervisor and Instructors, this role provides hands-on experience with NDT techniques while contributing to CINDE’s mission of advancing the field of non-destructive evaluation.
Responsibilities:
- Assist instructors in explaining training materials, demonstrating NDT inspection techniques, and providing practical examples.
- Prepare, maintain, and organize training facilities, labs, and equipment, including setup and cleanup for training courses.
- Oversee tests and exams in classroom, workshop, or lab settings, ensuring compliance with standards.
- Support the operation of the test center and contribute to research projects.
- Gain exposure to NDT techniques and certification processes while meeting CGSB certification on-the-job training requirements.
Requirements:
- Successful completion of CGSB-recognized courses in UT1, MT2, PT2, RT1, and ET1.
- Recent graduates of the Mohawk QET program are preferred.
- Ability to lift and move lab equipment and test pieces up to 20 kg.
- Flexibility to work outside standard hours for preparation, setup, or cleanup as required.
- Willingness to wear personal protective equipment in the lab environment.
Qualifications:
- Professional presence to represent CINDE and the College to the public.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide constructive feedback and model professional behavior.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Basic facilitation skills to encourage interactive discussion.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Basic skills in using hand tools, lab equipment, and specialized computer hardware and software.

Hours of Work:
- Regular hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday.
- Flexibility required for setup, preparation, and cleanup outside standard hours.
