Position Summary:

Blue Origin is seeking a highly skilled Digital Radiographic Test (DRT) Inspector to join their dedicated team of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) specialists. This position will primarily focus on performing radiographic inspections of flight-critical metallic and composite flight hardware, contributing directly to ensuring the integrity and safety of spaceflight systems. As part of Blue Origin’s mission to lower the cost of access to space and enable millions of people to live and work in space, this role will play a pivotal part in the ongoing development and production of reusable space vehicles and systems.

The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, a strong commitment to quality, and a passion for human spaceflight, ensuring safety and repeatability in all inspection processes. This position will involve working in both lab and field environments, with a focus on Digital Radiographic Testing (DRT) methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain techniques to properly examine hardware, ensuring adherence to safety and specification requirements.
  • Perform inspections using Digital Radiographic Testing (DRT) on flight-critical metallic and composite components.
  • Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria based on technical drawings and work orders.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly process control checks as required.
  • Document inspection results accurately and in an organized manner.
  • Communicate inspection results with Engineers and/or Managers to discuss findings and next steps.
  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to a culture of safety, quality, and inclusion.
  • Maintain the integrity and life span of components through detailed inspection processes.
  • Assist in continuous improvement of NDT practices and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of Level 2 experience in non-film radiography (Digital Radiography or Computed Radiography).
  • Must be able to pass the Radiographic General and Specific Test by week 3 (study materials will be provided if needed).
  • Must meet the minimum training requirements per NAS-410 for Radiographic Testing.
  • 40 hours of Radiation Safety Training and 40 hours of Digital Radiography Training.
  • Qualification to certify to Level II status in Non-Film Radiography with a minimum of 800 hours of documented experience.
  • Ability to meet minimum vision requirements (Near Vision: 20/25 at 16" or Jaeger No. 1 at 12”; Color Perception: 14 Plate Ishihara with at least 12 panels identified).
  • Familiarity with ASTM E1742, ASTM E2445, and ASTM E2698 standards for radiographic examination.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams.
  • Ability to lift and transport inspection equipment and parts within OSHA requirements.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and off-shifts as needed to meet deadlines.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification as a radiographer by a state or certifying entity (e.g., ASNT, IRRSP).
  • Experience or certification in other NDT methods such as Ultrasonics, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, and Magnetic Particle.
  • Training or certification in Computed and Digital Radiography and Advanced Phased Array techniques.
  • Familiarity with industry NDT standards and automated/robotic inspection equipment.
  • 1+ years of aerospace experience, particularly in a production environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in both lab and field environments, including confined spaces and heights.
  • Frequent exposure to outdoor settings and variable weather conditions.
  • Ability to pass a Pulmonary Fit Test (if required).
  • Heavy travel schedule, estimated at 75%, with potential overnight and air travel.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting parts and inspection equipment.
