Position Summary:

Acuren is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Pipeline Integrity Technician to support its regional operations in Duluth, MN. This role provides specialized expertise and guidance in the field of pipeline integrity, contributing to project planning, execution, and the development of technical solutions. The Lead Technician will be responsible for calibrating nondestructive test (NDT) equipment, conducting inspections, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and supporting the training and development of staff. The position requires the review and approval of technical documents, including procedures, standards, and reports, as well as engagement in business development and service line growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Calibrate nondestructive test (NDT) equipment and ensure its proper functioning.
  • Conduct tests using various NDT methods to detect discontinuities or defects and ensure quality.
  • Establish and apply techniques for proper examination and inspection, ensuring adherence to safety regulations.
  • Evaluate test results and ensure they meet applicable specifications and standards.
  • Organize and report test results accurately and effectively.
  • Perform specialized pipeline integrity inspections as required.
  • Review pipeline integrity inspection reports, assist other technicians with reporting, and ensure compliance with client specifications.
  • Participate in operational meetings with client engineers and project managers to align on expectations and deliverables.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with clients and pipeline integrity technicians to ensure smooth operations.
  • Update pipeline integrity databases, manage FTP sites, and track the status of priority digs.
  • Ensure all inspections and testing meet client specifications and report discrepancies or issues.
  • Assist in the training of technicians and support the development of new talent.
  • Assist with cost estimating and dig package preparation.
  • Maintain performance metrics on reporting, costs, and productivity.
  • Resolve any technical issues encountered in the field and report findings.
  • Supervise and instruct other technicians as required.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the manager.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree in an engineering or technical field is preferred.
  • Level II certifications in PT (Penetrant Testing), MT (Magnetic Particle Testing), and UT II Shear Wave with Advanced Sizing & Detection Technique or higher is required.
  • Strong knowledge of the pipeline industry, particularly pipeline integrity inspections.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively supervise and train technicians.
  • Attention to detail and technical proficiency in NDT methods and procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and capable of managing large datasets.
  • Experience in report writing and scientific documentation.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
