Fieldmade, a leader in deployable additive manufacturing systems, has announced the integration of Plastometrex’s PLX-Benchtop non-destructive testing (NDT) solution with its NOMAD micro factory series. This partnership aims to bring quality assurance to the forefront of metal additive manufacturing, offering customers a portable, end-to-end solution for production and mechanical testing.

The collaboration combines Fieldmade’s deployable NOMAD systems, designed for on-site additive manufacturing, with Plastometrex’s PLX-Benchtop, which delivers accurate, non-destructive stress-strain curve testing through the company’s proprietary Profilometry-based Indentation Plastometry (PIP) method. This integrated solution enables users to perform quality assurance directly at the point of production, allowing for immediate validation of the mechanical integrity of 3D printed parts.

By utilizing the PLX-Benchtop, customers will no longer require specialized expertise to perform testing. They can gain confidence in the performance of their parts within minutes, ensuring reliable results even in remote or expeditionary environments.

“Plastometrex’s solutions represent a paradigm shift for in-field testing,” said Tobias Rønneberg, Head of Quality at Fieldmade. “Our customers work in remote environments where parts are urgently needed and access to expertise can be limited. The ease of use, the speed of testing and compact size of the PLX-Benchtop, makes it highly suitable for use in expeditionary manufacturing. By integrating Plastometrex’s PLX-Benchtop into our NOMAD systems, our end-users can rapidly assess the quality of the additively manufactured parts on-the-fly, ensuring the safety and performance of critical components.”

Mike Coto, Chief Commercial Officer at Plastometrex, added: “This partnership marks an exciting turning point for deployable production. Traditional testing methods are too slow and inflexible for effective use in deployable settings. By integrating the PLX-Benchtop into the NOMAD systems, Fieldmade and Plastometrex are jointly enabling customers to manufacture and test components at the point of need.”

The integration of the PLX-Benchtop into the NOMAD micro factory series marks a significant step forward in portable, on-site metal additive manufacturing, offering a powerful solution to ensure quality and reliability in critical applications.
