ICNDT and IAEA Unite to Advance Global NDT Practices

The International Committee for Non-Destructive Testing (ICNDT) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have officially signed a set of Practical Arrangements to enhance their collaborative efforts in advancing the science and application of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) across the globe. The signing ceremony, held during the International Conference on Applications of Radiation Science and Technology (ICARST 2025), marked a pivotal moment in their partnership.

The ceremony took place at 5:35 PM, attended by senior representatives from both organizations, as well as numerous international guests. The Practical Arrangements were signed by Dr. Najat Mokhtar, Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, representing the IAEA, and Dr. Babu Sajeesh Kumar, Chairman of ICNDT, on behalf of the International Committee for Non-Destructive Testing.

Dr. Mokhtar expressed her strong support for the collaboration, stating, “I am looking forward to the joint activities ahead.” She also extended her appreciation to ICNDT for spearheading this cooperative initiative, emphasizing its importance in enhancing safety through NDT techniques, such as industrial radiography, and applying various NDT methods to improve the safety of facilities and infrastructure worldwide.

On behalf of ICNDT, Dr. Babu remarked, “This agreement represents a significant step forward in our shared mission to promote the safe, effective, and innovative use of NDT technologies globally. The partnership provides a framework for capacity building, training, radiation safety, and knowledge exchange—crucial pillars for ensuring quality, safety, and resilience across sectors.”

He also expressed gratitude toward Ms. Hannah A. Affum (IAEA) and Mr. David Gilbert (ICNDT) for their dedicated efforts in making this agreement possible, acknowledging their technical expertise and commitment over the past two years.

As part of this collaboration, ICNDT welcomed the IAEA as a Liaison Member, recognizing the value of the agency’s participation in ICNDT assemblies, working groups, and specialist international activities. The signing of these Practical Arrangements marks a shared commitment to advancing NDT as a vital tool for sustainable development, public safety, and the long-term safety of civil and industrial infrastructure worldwide.
