Kenya Airways Aircraft Maintenance Organization (AMO) has achieved a major milestone by securing the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part-145 Certification. This significant achievement reinforces the airline’s commitment to maintaining world-class aviation servicing and repairs, and further solidifies its standing as a leader in the global aviation industry.

With the EASA Part-145 Certification, Kenya Airways AMO is now authorized to provide a wide range of high-level maintenance services, including base and line maintenance for various aircraft models such as the Embraer E190 and Boeing 737-700/800/900, as well as specialized non-destructive testing services. The certification allows Kenya Airways to conduct both routine and extensive maintenance on European-registered aircraft and others operating under international jurisdictions. This recognition ensures that components serviced by Kenya Airways AMO can now be installed in aircraft worldwide, adhering to the highest global aviation safety and maintenance standards.

The acquisition of this certification marks a pivotal moment in Kenya Airways' growth strategy. It enhances the airline’s reputation as a top maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) provider in Africa and opens up opportunities for the company to attract international maintenance contracts. Furthermore, this achievement strengthens Kenya Airways’ efforts to diversify its revenue streams and contribute to the expansion of Africa’s aviation sector.

Kenya Airways began its journey toward EASA certification on November 21, 2022, with a clear goal of building a globally accredited maintenance organization. The process required an extensive review of 415 compliance actions, including facility enhancements, recruitment of specialized personnel, procedural upgrades, and the acquisition of advanced equipment. Through collaboration and the effective use of cross-functional expertise, Kenya Airways AMO successfully aligned with EASA’s stringent requirements in just nine months, culminating in its formal application for certification in January 2024.

Looking ahead, Kenya Airways AMO plans to further expand its certification scope, particularly in component repair and overhaul services. This accomplishment underscores the airline’s long-term vision of becoming Africa’s most trusted and sustainable aviation group, positioning Kenya Airways as a key player in the global MRO market.
