McDermott, a leading player in the energy industry, has inaugurated a welding and technology center at the Oilfields Supply Center in Dubai’s Jebel Ali Freezone. The cutting-edge 4,100-square-meter facility, designed to support research, development, and qualification efforts, has the capacity to accommodate up to 250 personnel, marking a significant milestone in the company’s global operations.
The new hub is aimed at consolidating McDermott’s global pipeline expertise, creating a centralized location to streamline project execution and customer service delivery. By bringing together its diverse capabilities, the company seeks to strengthen its position as a leader in subsea pipeline fabrication and installation.
“This facility houses our Pipeline Production Group and secures our position as an industry leader in subsea pipeline fabrication and installation,” said Mike Sutherland, Senior Vice President, Offshore Middle East at McDermott. “By centralizing our expertise, we can advance world-leading pipeline fabrication and qualification processes while enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and ensuring predictable performance for projects worldwide.”
The facility offers a comprehensive suite of services, including welding, pipeline coating, non-destructive testing, equipment management, production simulation, and targeted research and development. It also features advanced vessel simulation capabilities, such as a full S-lay lineup, a firing line simulation area, and a J-lay rotating table for vertical pipelay.
These technological advancements are designed to support remote intervention with McDermott’s pipelay vessel fleet, enabling seamless integration with field operations. The facility also facilitates training simulations, contributing to improved safety and operational efficiency.
The strategic location of the center in Dubai’s Jebel Ali Freezone further enhances McDermott’s ability to serve clients across the Middle East and beyond, reinforcing its commitment to delivering innovative, cost-effective solutions in the energy sector.
