Phoenix International Holdings, a leader in underwater inspection and repair services, recently concluded a comprehensive underwater inspection in lieu of drydocking (UWILD) for Talos Energy at the Thunderhawk platform located at MC-736-A in the Gulf of Mexico.

Over the course of 36 days, Phoenix's dive crew, equipped with a deep air package, executed 164 dives, including 155 surface decompression dives on oxygen (Sur/D O2) and 8 non-decompression (No/D) dives. The crew, consisting of six divers, six tenders, and one supervisor, worked in 16-hour shifts to conduct a detailed inspection of the platform's structural integrity.

Key tasks completed during the project included magnetic particle inspection (MPI) of 119 welds, close visual inspection (CVI) of 300 welds, and general visual inspection (GVI) of 200 welds. These inspections are critical for assessing the condition of underwater structures and ensuring the ongoing safety and reliability of the platform.

Jon Regh, Houston area manager at Phoenix International Holdings, expressed satisfaction with the project’s success: “We are pleased to have completed another successful project for our long-term client, Talos Energy. Phoenix has a longstanding history of working on offshore oil and gas facilities throughout the Gulf of Mexico, and nondestructive testing (NDT) is one of our core capabilities that we offer to help maintain the quality and safety of our clients’ assets.”

The successful completion of this project reinforces Phoenix’s reputation as a trusted partner in the offshore energy sector, known for delivering high-quality inspection and maintenance services that ensure the integrity of vital infrastructure in challenging marine environments.
