BP Wind Energy and Onyx Insight are joining forces once again to revolutionize wind turbine maintenance in the US. Building on a trusted seven-year collaboration, the new five-year deal solidifies their commitment to cutting-edge predictive maintenance.
Since 2016, Onyx Insight has been at the forefront of this partnership, initially deploying its fleetMONITOR condition monitoring software across 242 of BP's US onshore turbines. In 2017, BP further demonstrated its technological leadership by becoming the first company to adopt Onyx's ecoCMS advanced sensing technology at scale, an initiative continuing under the new agreement. This innovative tech combines advanced sensing and analytics, providing engineers with invaluable data for assessing asset health.
The success of this partnership is underscored by its rapid payback period of under 12 months. BP has since made ecoCMS its go-to solution for turbine predictive maintenance. Onyx's versatile technology can be applied to any make and model of asset t, including BP's GE, Vestas, and Nordex sites. The majority of BP's wind turbine fleet now benefits from this cutting-edge solution.
Moreover, BP is set to incorporate Onyx's case management tools, streamlining operations and achieving even greater savings in operational expenditure through predictive maintenance.
Alistair Warwick, CEO of BP Wind Energy, highlighted the importance of this partnership: "By leveraging Onyx's technology, we can better understand the lifespan of turbine components at our wind farms, improve maintenance schedules, reduce costs, and avoid breakdowns. This agreement helps BP Wind Energy remain a technology leader. It also supports our commitment to produce secure, affordable, lower-carbon energy while accelerating our net-zero ambition."
