Upstate Shredding President and CEO Adam Weitsman has announced a major development deal with SureScan, a Binghamton-based company specializing in advanced x-ray imaging technologies for security screening, non-destructive testing, and medical imaging.

The deal is expected to immediately create 50 to 60 jobs at the old Harvard Manufacturing Building, located within the Tioga County Corporate Park. SureScan’s expansion marks a significant addition to the region’s business community, driven by the growing demand for innovative security and imaging solutions.

“The building is located right by my office in Owego, and each time I drove by it bothered me, the facility was vacant because I felt it had enormous potential for Tioga County,” said Weitsman. “So, I purchased it, fixed it up to be more attractive for companies, and worked as hard as I could to find a tenant. In my conversations with SureScan, they loved the building, location and community, and are going to be a great corporate addition to the Business Park.”

Weitsman had purchased the 163,000-square-foot building, situated at 941 State Route 38 in Owego, NY, in 2022 for $3 million. Following upgrades and strategic marketing, the facility is now poised to support SureScan’s operational expansion, which aims to grow the workforce to 100 employees once the site is fully operational.

SureScan, which has secured contracts with multiple airports, cited the need for additional space to accommodate rising demand. The new Tioga County location will support the company’s efforts to enhance security screening technologies and bolster production capabilities.

“This is SureScan’s first presence in Tioga County,” added Weitsman. “I take great pride in the fact that one of SureScan’s primary functions is to design and manufacture equipment for airports to ensure travelers are safe and secure when they leave their homes to work or visit families.”

The project is seen as a critical boost for Tioga County's economic development, bringing new job opportunities and reaffirming the region’s potential as a hub for high-tech manufacturing and innovation.
