Engineering solutions firm Tulway has opened a new 70,000 square foot facility on Teesside, a move set to create 50 new jobs in the North East. This expansion will see the company enhance its capabilities across various sectors, including project management, engineering, and skilled trades, with roles expected to be filled in the coming months.
The new site, which includes an additional 12,000 square feet of office space and five advanced fabrication bays equipped with eight overhead cranes, represents a significant investment in Tulway’s future.
Kevin Tully, Managing Director of Tulway, emphasized the strategic nature of the expansion. He said, "This new facility is more than just an expansion - it’s a gateway to new opportunities."
With this facility, Tulway is poised to enter new markets, particularly in renewable energy, carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), sustainable aviation fuel, and the nuclear sector, while continuing to support its long-standing clients.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen, who officiated the site opening, commended the development as a major milestone for both Tulway and the wider region. "This new facility is a fantastic step forward for Tulway and a huge win for Teesside’s growing reputation as the UK’s centre for high-quality manufacturing and engineering," Houchen stated. "This investment and stamp of confidence in our region comes directly off the back of securing Net Zero Teesside, bp’s £6billion project."
He further remarked, "I have always said that making sure local businesses benefit from the massive investment we are attracting is my priority and that is exactly what is happening here. In securing this work, Tulway are expanding their operation and creating 50 new jobs for local people. This is fantastic news and exactly what we are trying to achieve. I look forward to seeing their continued success in the years to come."
The new facility is also equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, including the Weldeye weld monitoring system, which places Tulway among a select few UK fabricators with this capability. Additionally, the site houses advanced pipe bevelling machinery that reduces bevelling times by 80%, leading to faster project completion and significant cost savings.
Kevin Tully further highlighted the strategic importance of this expansion for the company's future: "With this expansion, Tulway is strategically positioned to support emerging industries such as Net Zero Teesside and sustainable aviation fuel technology. These sectors represent critical steps in the UK's journey toward a greener future, and Tulway is proud to contribute its engineering expertise to these transformative initiatives."
The facility was designed with sustainability in mind, featuring initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption. As part of its commitment to environmental responsibility, Tulway has partnered with Incon NDT to introduce 'non-destructive' testing services, a move set to lower carbon emissions by an estimated 20 tonnes annually.
With forward orders exceeding £10 million, Tulway is set to build on this growth and continue its trajectory of success in the coming years.
