TWI Diplomas and Degree in Asset Integrity Management (AIM) – creating career pathways for AIM professionals

Asset Integrity Management (AIM) is a specific engineering discipline focused on ensuring the safe, continuous operation, maintenance and repair of industrial plant and equipment. As such, AIM is a major concern in global sectors such as oil and gas, power and construction, and this results in high demand for qualified, experienced AIM professionals that can manage and service critical assets safely.

It was these factors that led TWI, through the TWI Global Academy, to create the new TWI Diplomas in Asset Integrity Management (AIM): AIM Practitioner, AIM Specialist and AIM Professional. The courses are designed to provide a bridge between technical and vocational training and higher education programmes and offer individuals a clear pathway to professional development, qualifications and certification, backed by relevant, real-world, on-the-job insights. Candidates will also be able to enrol on a Degree programme, meaning that on successful completion of all three Diplomas, candidates will have a Degree in AIM awarded by a leading UK university in conjunction with TWI

Working in the field of asset integrity management (AIM)

A career in AIM is multi-faceted, requiring depth and breadth of knowledge and skills. It involves undertaking regular inspection and evaluation, using different assessment methods, to identify potential issues such as corrosion, erosion and structural vulnerabilities. Continuous monitoring with advanced engineering technologies provides real-time data for prompt detection of deviations from standard operating conditions – whilst inspection findings enable the development and implementation of maintenance and repair plans – and risk assessments proactively identify and mitigate potential hazards, subsequently enabling the integrity of critical assets to be maintained. Additional responsibilities of AIM professionals include enhancing performance to create value and reduce maintenance costs, adherence to industry regulations and alignment with standards, and strategic lifecycle planning for projects from installation through to decommissioning.

About the TWI Diplomas in Asset Integrity Management (AIM)

Candidates on the programmes will be able to build their knowledge and expand their sphere of reference from day 1 — starting with concepts and theories, progressing through practical exploration and applications, and onto advanced techniques and industry-specific expertise — leading to significantly enhanced job prospects in the future. The holistic study approach combines practical, theoretical and situational training, and ongoing support, with expert content experienced through an innovative approach to online, interactive e-learning and in-person sessions. Candidates will also have opportunities to learn from peer-to-peer collaboration by connecting with fellow participants, industry professionals and potential employers. Each Diploma can be undertaken flexibility, up to a maximum time span of two years, so that individuals can plan around their work and home-life responsibilities.
