VisiConsult got a 1.1 million euro grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Schleswig-Holstein state government. The grant is for their Battery Inspection Portfolio Inline (BIP Inline) project. They aim to develop CT systems for non-destructive testing of battery cells during assembly. Inline inspection is already used in the early stages of cell assembly. However, ensuring quality after assembly and before finalisation is tough. Especially when the anode and cathode are enclosed, optical methods don't work well here, and no other NDT solutions are available. So, the CT inline inspection portfolio from VCbattery is crucial.
"Battery manufacturers need to think about available technologies when planning production," said Lennart Schulenburg, CEO of VisiConsult. "We are glad the Schleswig-Holstein government supports key technologies for quality testing and production facility initiatives." The BIP Inline project focuses on improving inspection speed, defect detection, and multimodal inspection. VisiConsult wants to enhance the product's benefits and its role in the value chain, including battery cells, modules, systems, R&D, production, reuse, and recycling. "This method changes battery quality control by detecting and fixing faults early," said Claus Ruhe Madsen, Minister of Economics and Technology of Schleswig-Holstein. "VisiConsult’s commitment to R&D shows how Schleswig-Holstein is becoming a high-tech battery hub."
VisiConsult’s VCbattery systems work for all cell types. The second generation of CT inline cell inspection systems is quick for pouched and prismatic cells. The third generation inspects cylindrical cells 50 times faster than other solutions. "Using our CT Inline technologies can save a lot on factory design costs and reduce scrap rates," said Bernhard Mürkens, Head of VCbattery at VisiConsult. "It's also about sustainability. Ensuring the longest battery life cycle early on through quality inspection at key production milestones. Our CT inline technology is perfect for this."
