Waygate Technologies, a Baker Hughes business and global leader in nondestructive testing (NDT) solutions, has introduced Mesofocus technology as a new option for its Phoenix V|tome|x C450 computed tomography (CT) systems. The advanced Mesofocus X-ray tube, developed in collaboration with Comet, delivers a breakthrough in high-resolution 3D CT inspections of large or dense components, offering an innovative alternative to traditional Minifocus and Microfocus X-ray systems.
The Mesofocus technology combines the penetration power of Minifocus with the high resolution of Microfocus, ensuring detailed and accurate CT imaging, even in the most challenging industrial environments. It is ideal for industries such as battery production, foundries, additive manufacturing, electronics, and aerospace, where precise inspection of dense materials like turbine blades and large electronic components is crucial.
“The Mesofocus X-ray tube brings a unique balance of power and resolution, allowing us to provide customers with a superior inspection solution for large and dense parts,” said a spokesperson for Waygate Technologies. “This technology also supports 24/7 operations with low maintenance, making it highly efficient for mass production environments.”
Mesofocus technology is further enhanced by Waygate Technologies’ patented Scatter|correct technology, which eliminates scattered radiation artifacts in real-time. This innovation ensures optimal CT image quality with precise defect detection and accurate 3D metrology, even in complex inspection scenarios.
Offering focal spot sizes down to 63 microns at 450 kV, Mesofocus technology provides the stability, repeatability, and accuracy essential for high-demand production environments without the need for frequent recalibration.
